I’m ready! but honestly I have doubts that America is….but I would love for them to prove me wrong! I think Obama is more than capable and in a perfect world, it should have nothing to do with the color of his skin, but only with leadership and overall skills to lead the United States here and abroad. This is huge for Obama in Iowa…Can you imagine saying President Obama!

Ok, I really think this is a publicity stunt for clothing label Frank Fuller Classic, but at what cost? If this is a publicity stunt by them, not only is it in poor taste, but to try to benefit from something proven a rumor that is steeped in racism and hate is in and of itself, racist. It’s reminiscent of these political candidates that say they don’t support offensive comments made about the opposing candidates and then they continue to repeat the offensive comments, drawing evenmore attention to it.

Who is Frank Fuller Classic, anyway? I guess this was an opportunity/ploy to get attention quickly, will this work for them and is it worth it….is it publicity at all costs? I personally disagree. You don’t have to knock someone down to get ahead and if you do knock them down, you may be stand victorious for the moment, but you’ll fall even harder in the end.

Oprah Winfrey’s Blessing Aside, Tommy Hilfiger Still Haunted by Racism Rumors

           by David Foxley | January 1, 2008

False rumors that Tommy Hilfiger voiced regret over his clothing’s popularity in the African-American community dogged him for years. It took nothing short of a blessing from Oprah Winfrey to make them go away. Except, it seems, they didn’t go away at all.

Clothing label Frank Fuller Classic, apparently a sort of wannabe prep outfitter with a CK Bradley style sense, took out an advertisement recently in a magazine that reads: “Frank Fuller Clothing CO Is Not Racist Like Tommy Hilfiger.”

Attorneys for the 56-year-old Americana macher responded immediately, sending the magazine and the clothing company cease and desist letters. Mr. Hilfiger’s rep also offered TMZ.com a statement, saying: “This is nothing more than a hoax concocted months after Oprah and Tommy put to rest the tired, baseless yet intolerable rumor, declaring it a ‘big, fat lie.’”

Tuesday Jan 1, 2008 — By Dede Sutton

So here we are. The first day of 2008. First, I would like to say how blessed and thankful we are to be approaching our one year anniversary mark. I can honestly say that two years ago I would have never thought I would be running Clutch and being able to share my dream with the world. So - again I say thank you for supporting and empowering us!

Speaking of empowering, the other day I was chatting with a friend about our image in the media and how we interact with each other. After the conversation, I couldn’t shake one of her comments. And that was that - when Black women have knowledge or know-how a lot of us choose not to pass it on to other sisters. I can say that definitely struck a cord with me and that very day I vowed to pass on any and everything I could to women who were interested in learning anything I have been blessed to obtain in my 28 years on this earth.

I would like to challenge all of my sisters to support and love one another in 2008 and beyond. Let’s build and repair and try to live by the following manifesto. Even though it is entitled “The Woman of Color Manifesto” it can be translated to all ethnicities, but because I am a proud African American woman I wanted to speak directly to my gorgeous sisters.

As a woman of color…I will continue to be respectful to myself and others.
As a woman of color…I will honor my ancestors and elders.
As a woman of color…I will challenge myself to think outside of the box and go after my dreams.
As a woman of color…I will stop tearing other women down and support and love them.
As a woman of color…I will not support those who continue to perpetuate stereotypes, false images and negativity.
As a woman of color…I will build and empower our younger sisters and brothers to be all they can be and more.
As a woman of color…I will help restore and rebuild my community.
As a woman of color…I will be a mentor to those who may not know what I have been blessed to learn or experience.
As a woman of color…I will live my life to the fullest and not let others deter me from my goals and aspirations.
As a woman of color…I will be the beautiful, intelligent and cultured woman I was raised to be.

We appreciate the love, support, and prayers received.

On the same day as Dr. Donda West’s funeral in Oklahoma City, the surgeon some say may be responsible for her death, Dr. Jan Adams was scheduled to appear on CNN’s Larry King Live. In an interview the veteran television host had with Anderson Cooper’s 360, King revealed that eight minutes before airing, Adams stated that he would not be interviewed.

In an unusual turn of events, Dr. Adams appeared on the show, briefly stating that he was not going to speak out of respect for the West family. After Larry King suggested they discuss other matters besides West’s death, such as Adams‘ DUI charges and past legal woes, the guest stood up, removed his microphone and left the set. According to Larry King, this is the first such occurrence in over 50 years of his career in television. The host reminded the guest, “But you came here to talk,” as Adams left the set. King also added that Adams’ attorney mentioned a “cease and desist” from the West family. Anderson Cooper added that such a suit is impossible involving a medical interview, nor would Adams‘ speaking violate patient confidentiality.

Larry King added that Dr. Adams remained offstage during the live airing, and even attempted to buy a show producer dinner for the stress he caused. Meanwhile the veteran show host has offered to postpone a vacation on Wednesday if Adams will agree to appear again. No statement has been given from Kanye West or his family on the incident.

The mother of Kanye West died this past week due to what reports call “surgical complications” this past weekend in Los Angeles. A full medical report with cause of death remains several weeks away.

I’ve always thought about taking lessons. I can imitate some of the moves, but i wanted to get the official rundown. So I went to a Cuban spot for my first salsa lesson. It was a lot of fun! The instructor was funny in a quirky way, he taught us the basic steps then put them all together, he explained the whole concept of the man being the lead in salsa. What i learned was that if you are trying to dance with a man that has 2 left feet…it’s going to make it very difficult to stay on beat, he can throw the whole thing off, but if you dance with a man that knows what he’s doing…..he can lead you to the right moves.

Afterwards, we had dinner….I had Moduros (Sweet plaintain), Moros ( i think it’s called, black beans & white rice), skewered sugar cane shrimp and mojitos…Ok I’m making myself hungry As we were leaving they had the live band setting up, so I’ll have to come back and check them out another time.

If you haven’t tried salsa before, I highly recommend it…maybe take at least one lesson, but after that just watch someone that knows what their doing and go with the music.

adiós amigos!

I’m thankful for the love and support of my family, friends and YOU of Unified Soul. It still amazes me how much Unified Soul continues to build, grow and reach people from down south to overseas! From an ambitious idea to spread a positive message of self-love, cultural diversity and acceptance — to tees in stores and on TV. From an online store — to vending at Howard University Homecoming this year and Madison Square Garden next month!

I am so very thankful for this blessing and your continued support!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions, comments and such.

Much Love, Peace & Blessings,

Dr. Donda West, Kanye West’s mother, suddenly died last night, individuals close to the rapper confirmed.

The cause of death was not released immediately, but she was reportedly in the Los Angeles area when she died.

She was 58 years old.

Kanye West chronicled his mother’s death in “Hey Mama,” a song from his album Late Registration.

In the song, Kanye raps, “(Hey Mama), I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I’m so proud of you / Let me tell you what I’m about to do, (Hey Mama) / I know I act a fool but, I promise you I’m goin back to school /I appreciate what you allowed for me
I just want you to be proud of me (Hey Mama).”

West eventually performed the song in front of his mother and Oprah Winfrey on the TV host’s highly rated show.

Although she was renown as Kanye West’s mother, Donda West had achieved much on her own.

She served as the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University, but retired to act as Kanye’s manager. She was an English professor for 31 years.

Earlier this year, she released a book called Raising Kanye, which chronicled her journey of raising her son.

In an interview with AllHipHop, Dr. West said she learned from her son and vice versa.

“Looking at Kanye has made me a more courageous individual, and I already saw myself as being courageous. I believe that Kanye has broken through and gone to levels and done things that I haven’t been able to reach yet,” she told AllHipHop.com. “I have 28 years to his senior so I have a lot of experience. I’ve learned to speak my mind regardless of the consequences. I’ve learned a lot having raised Kanye and being his mother.”

The word of Dr. West’s death has traveled fast through word of mouth, in particular her hometown of Chicago.

“’The city of Chicago is hurting for Kanye West and his family. We know how much he loved and valued his mother and we just ask other cities to join us in prayer for Kanye,” said Kendra G, a Morning Show co-host at Power 92 in Chicago

AllHipHop.com will provide more information as details a revealed. Our condolences go out to Kanye West and the family of Dr. Donda West.
